In response to the current economic conditions and conscious of the trading difficulties of many clients, the Carlow County Enterprise Board arranged an afternoon seminar on Wednesday the 10th of December in Enterprise House. The primary theme was looking at the current situation and identifying strategies that might enable businesses to trade successfully through the downturn.
Blaise Brosnan was the guest speaker and spoke to a group of more than 30 owner managers. It was a very upbeat afternoon and the dreaded “R” word was not in attendance.
Blaise from Management Resource Institute, has been working with businesses in the Region for over 20 years and has experienced similar economic slowdowns in the past. He reminded his audience that the world had not stopped and a recovery will emerge, in the natural order of things. It’s just not possible to say exactly when.
He advised the owner managers that cash cannot be in two places at the one time, it is how we manage our cash that is important. We are facing a challenge, but we need to stand up, be positive and fight for our business, he said.
There are things we have no control over, for example foreign exchange rates and the price of a barrel of oil, but those variables that we have control over, in particular our costs, we must keep a keen eye on and manage accordingly. |
