Carlow Enterprise Centre

The Carlow Enterprise Centre is a community led initiative involving a partnership between the local communities and the state bodies.

The Centre is located on O`Brien Rd in Carlow approx 2km from the town centre.The building is a two storey structure with 5,500 Sq Ft of letting space. It accommodates units ranging in size from 500 Sq Ft to 1000 Sq Ft.

The centre provides incubation space to start up businesses. The business sectors being targeted include ICT services, internationally traded services, food production and the craft sector.

The Enterprise Centre facilities are also available to businesses and organisations in the County. The state of the art conference facility contained in the Enterprise Centre has been carefully planned under the direction of Carlow County Enterprise Board to provide the best possible atmosphere for a diverse range of uses. Video conferencing facilities will be available in 2005 and a high level of demand from businesses throughout the County is predicted for these services.

The Centre itself has been architecturally designed to represent a modern, futuristic office building, with ample car parking, landscaped surroundings and unique features including the use of glass and the dome shaped roof. All of the units in the Centre can be fitted with patch panels to facilitate office networks.

The centre is managed by the Carlow County Enterprise Board who recognize the importance of such a facility in the County and also in meeting the demand for affordable enterprise space.

Carlow itself is a most attractive location for business with excellent infrastructure, proximity to Dublin, availability of commercial and industrial sites and a rapidly growing population.

Carlow provides technology support to industry through the Computer Integrated Manufacturing Centre and the Institute of Technology Carlow . Also located in Carlow is Teagasc National Research facility.

Official Opening 11th May 2005

Minister for Enterprise Trade & Employment, Micheál Martin TD officially opened the first Community Enterprise Centre in County Carlow on the 11th May 2005. Speaking at the opening the Minister praised the strong entrepreneurial spirit inherent in the County and underlined the Government’s strong commitment to supporting the growth of indigenous industry. “While the attraction of high quality FDI projects from abroad remains a priority for the Government, we recognize that building a strong vibrant indigenous enterprise sector is going to be critical to our future prosperity.” stated the Minister. “The Government believes that it can support the development of a strong indigenous business sector by actively pursuing an economic environment that is supportive of entrepreneurial activity and by the provision  of targeted interventions by the various State enterprise development agencies, including the County and City Enterprise Boards.”

Emphasising the importance of Enterprise Centres in building a thriving enterprise sector, the Minister praised the efforts of Carlow County Enterprise Board in realising the project. “Carlow County Enterprise Board has been to the forefront in developing the conditions and supports for micro-enterprise growth in the Region” stated the Minister “I also know that the Board has played a significant role in the development of this fine Centre and it is fitting that the Board should now become it’s anchor tenant.”

The opening ceremony was completed by the Minister planting an Oak tree, symbolic of his vision for the growth of indigenous enterprise
