The Carlow County Enterprise Board was set up to meet a need, which was identified for support targeted specifically at the micro-enterprise sector. A key feature of the Enterprise Board was that it includes representatives of a range of local interests and have a wholly localised county-based focus to its mission. The Carlow County Enterprise Board which is part of the network of 35 CEBs were established in 1993 and subsequently given statutory status under the Industrial Development Act of 1995. A specific objective was to cultivate and expand an ethos of local entrepreneurship.
Function
The statutory function of Carlow County Enterprise Board is to stimulate economic and entrepreneurial activity at county level and to develop local indigenous enterprise potential in the micro-business sector. The Board seeks to harness collective effort across a broad spectrum of the local community with a view to generating local economies of real strength and durability.
Structure
The 14 Members of the Carlow County Enterprise Board, comprise the representatives of the social partners, which include the business, voluntary community & representative sectors.
In the evaluation of applications for financial assistance , the Board is assisted by a 6 member Evaluation Committee , representing local business and representative organisations.

Funding
The Board is a statutory agency operating under the Industrial Development Act 1995. It is funded by the Irish Government and the EU Structural Funds under the National Development Plan 2007 - 2013.
